Dontasknothing and DnA

Dontasknothing is produced by DnA, the Deptford Arts Network (aka DaN, AdN, aND, etc etc), very loosely on a monthly basis. It's purpose is to share information, showcase work and publish articles written by, for, or of interest to the artist community.

DnA is a voluntary organisation, a loose affiliation of artists and studio groups in the Deptford/Greenwich area whose aim is to promote interest in the contemporary art practice of the area. It has been going for about three years and is based on Creekside. DnA has irregular meetings, usually in a pub or studio, notified on dontasknothing and by email.

If you're wondering why the acronym does not quite match the name - it used to, but DAN reminded some people of Bob The Builder and was felt to be, well, a bit crap.
DnA on the other hand, can still be network based in Deptford and about Art, but it says much more about the way things work - it's organic, idiosyncratic and open to evolution. Hence it also crops up as DaN, AdN, nDA and aND.

Dontasknothing is another evolution of the acronym, as are artistsneverdrink, antediluviannightmare and niceanddeptford. Dontasknothing is so-called because artists are idiots. That is, the word idiot, (derived from the greek idios - meaning private/ self/ alone) describes artists as outsiders, beyond the pale of polite society. Artists ask questions that polite people don't and polite people often dislike them for it - artists should neither be seen nor heard, and should only make work if it's pretty, useful and commercially viable. Don't ask nothing, just paint the pictures. You have to be a bit of an idiot to be an artist.

But for heaven's sake - don't ask Nothing! If no-one had ever asked anything we'd all still be living in trees sucking berries. If you don't ask nothing you won't get nothing.

Dontasknothing is open to submission of any form. Currently you are not able to upload material externally but DnA would be delighted to receive contributions to info@dontasknothing.com.

If you are submitting artwork for feature selection please supply images as follows:
No more than 8 images
Saved as jpegs at 72 dpi.
File sizes should be no larger than 300Kb each
Images preferably 500 pxls wide
Please also supply a short statement (500 words) about your work.

If you wish to submit text or an article please provide it as a Word.doc attachment with no embedded images. If the text requires images please supply them separately (as above).
