Visual Arts Commission - via Arts Greenwich

St Mary’s Primary School in Lewisham wishes to commission a visual artist to create an externally sited piece of work that will celebrate and commemorate the history and 175th anniversary in 2008 of the school.

This work should:
• Raise the recognition and profile of the school in the community
• Enrich the school environment
• Involve the whole school community in the creative process
• Be thought provoking and inspiring
• Recognise the past and look to the future
• Be of high quality, durable and site specific
• Create a legacy

If you are interested in collaborating with our school community to realise our ambitions you should:
• Tell us why you are interested in this and what you would bring to the project
• Explain how you have created work in the past in similar circumstances i.e. consulted and worked with a community and created site specific work that celebrates and commemorates a place or event
• Describe the materials you usually work with

What next: Applicants that meet the brief will be invited to spend a day at the school on Thursday 18 October 2007 to understand the school and the community in order to complete a full proposal.
