‘Deptford X exists to promote the best contemporary visual art and celebrate that art with the widest possible audience - it is an arts event born of Deptford's creative community and based on a belief in the limitless potential of the area.’

We would like to introduce you to the Deptford X programme for 2008, which is being curated by Julia Alvarez. We are pleased to announce that Deptford X is now in its tenth year and this year’s event is scheduled to take place between 26th September and 19th October 2008.
The theme of this year’s event is Currency and this will be reflected throughout the Deptford X programme.

Programme Highlights
Curated Programme
Julia Alvarez of Bearspace will be curating a programme of exhibitions throughout Deptford. Julia has identified a range of established and up and coming artists that reflect Deptford X’s mission statement to promote the best contemporary visual art and celebrate that art with the widest possible audience.

Open Studios & Galleries
Once again, we will be inviting studios and galleries in Deptford to be open to the general public during Deptford X. Opening Days, and venues are due to be posted on the site.

Open Submission
Deptford X welcomes submissions from artists living or working Deptford. Ten artists / groups will be selected to receive £200 each to develop a unique project for Deptford X, one of the selected artists / groups will receive the MacDonald Egan Award and a cheque for £500. Additional artists will also be selected to take part in the invited programme; there is no fee for being selected to take part in the invited programme.
Deadline for applications is Monday 16th June 2008, 5pm.

Community & Education Programme
This year’s Community education programme, entitled “One in Four”, will work with schools groups and people with mental health needs to make a response to the retrospective show at APT.

Tenth Anniversary Book
Finally we are pleased to announce that Deptford X will be celebrating it’s 10th year with a anniversary book. If you have been involved in Deptford X over the last 9 years and have imagery you would like to submit for possible inclusion we would be interested in hearing form you. Please submit imagery in jpeg format only to Shellie@deptfordX.com.
